About Adventure Trip Guide

Sarah hiking in the Himalayas

That's me in Nepal, 2019 - where this journey really began

Hi, I'm Sarah! 👋

I never planned to become a travel blogger. Back in 2019, I was working a 9-to-5 job in marketing, dreaming about mountains from my desk in Seattle. Then came that life-changing trek to Everest Base Camp - armed with nothing but an overpacked backpack and absolutely zero high-altitude experience (not my smartest move, I'll admit 😅).

That trip changed everything. Between the breathtaking views, the amazing people I met in the teahouses, and yes, even the altitude sickness that had me questioning all my life choices - I discovered something bigger than just travel. I found a way of experiencing the world that felt authentic, challenging, and completely addictive.

Why This Blog Exists

After returning from Nepal, I noticed something frustrating: most travel content either sugar-coated everything or felt impossibly intimidating. Where was the practical advice about what to do when your water filter breaks in the middle of nowhere? Or how to actually afford these adventures on a regular person's budget? (Because let's be real - not all of us are sponsored athletes!)

So in 2020, I started Adventure Trip Guide with a simple mission: to create the resource I wish I'd had when I was starting out. No glamorous influencer shots, no gatekeeping - just honest advice, real experiences, and practical tips for making adventure travel more accessible.

What You'll Find Here

Everything I write about, I've experienced firsthand - from that time I accidentally booked a "hotel" in Morocco that turned out to be someone's garage, to figuring out how to stretch a teacher's salary across three months of backpacking in South America. I share:

  • Detailed trip planning guides (with actual budget breakdowns)
  • Honest gear reviews (I buy all my own equipment)
  • Safety tips learned the hard way
  • Sustainable travel practices that actually make sense

Behind the Scenes

Today, I balance this blog with my part-time teaching job (shout out to my amazing students who pretend to be interested in my travel stories! 🙏). When I'm not writing or grading papers, you'll find me planning my next trip, testing gear in the Cascades, or trying to convince my cat that a backpack is a perfectly reasonable bed.

Quick Facts About Me:

  • Countries visited: 34 (and counting)
  • Favorite hike: Tour du Mont Blanc
  • Biggest travel fail: Getting lost in Iceland and accidentally hiking 12 extra miles
  • Can't travel without: My trusty Aeropress coffee maker
  • Current goal: Visiting every national park in North America
